Lincoln Land Community College is looking for volunteer tutors in the Jacksonville area to support the adult education program. Volunteers are needed to help adults improve their reading, math, writing and / or English skills.
Marybeth Hentrich, the literacy coordinator at LLCC, says the college offers a variety of formats for tutoring, including personal health policy compliance, distance learning, and a combination of both.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. LLCC will provide training, materials, and resources for tutoring.
The time required is at least one hour per week (although some volunteer for two or three hours per week), and times are flexible depending on the availability of each teacher. The tutors mainly work with the students from Monday to Friday, but can also volunteer at the weekend.

The volunteer tutoring program is made possible by a scholarship awarded by the Illinois State Library, a division of the Illinois Secretary of State’s office, with funding for literacy.
In addition to literacy services, LLCC Adult Education offers free GED prep classes. For more information, visit www.llcc.edu/adult-education or call 217-786-2349.
